GOC is pleased to provide opportunities for its members to participate in leadership roles within the organization through its Board and various committees. All members are invited to self-nominate or nominate a colleague for available positions. Members at all career stages are encouraged to apply and help advance the organization’s mission.
Nominations Process
To ensure transparency and equitable access to opportunities, GOC runs a nominations process to fill vacant positions on its Board and committees. Terms are two years in length and may be renewed once, with the exception of fellows, whose term is one year and non-renewable. The nominations process is organized by the Membership and Nominations Committee, which welcomes expressions of interest, including both peer and self-nominations. Members may apply during the call for nominations, which is held at least annually.

NOTE: Not all leadership positions fall within the purview of the nominations process (e.g., president-elect), and some positions may not currently be vacant. Peer nominators may nominate a colleague for a specific position or submit a general nomination. In either case, nominees may choose to apply for positions other than the one for which they were nominated.
The Membership & Nominations Committee will review all received nominations and will make its recommendations to the GOC Board.
- Nominees for committees will be appointed to their new positions once approved by the Board.
- Nominees for the Board will be appointed to their new positions once recommended by the Board and approved by the membership during the Annual Business Meeting.

Nominations Timeline
January 29, 2026 – Call for nominations opens
May 10, 2026, 11:59pm PST – Call for nominations closes
Until June 2, 2026 – Membership and Nominations Committee reviews applications
June 3, 2026 – Membership and Nominations Committee brings a slate of Board and committee candidates to the Board for approval
Until June 10, 2026 – Nominees are informed of the Board’s decision
June 11, 2026 – Board brings the final slate of Board candidates for full membership approval at the Annual Business Meeting
