Nominations for GOC volunteer positions

GOC is pleased to provide a variety of volunteer positions to its members and all are invited to take the opportunity to self-nominate or to nominate a colleague to available vacant positions. Take time to read the information below to familiarize yourself with the GOC’s governance structure and how to apply.

Our Strategic Plan

GOC Governance Structure

GOC is governed by a board of directors responsible for managing the Society. The board members include: the president, president-elect, immediate past president, chief strategy officer, secretary-treasurer, secretary-treasurer-elect, the directors of education, communities of practice, communications, guidelines, business, and research, a nursing director and a fellow director.

Board representatives are non-voting members of the board; their role is to represent GOC on external boards and committees. Terms for the directors are for two years, renewable once, except for the fellow director (one year term, non-renewable).

Committees

GOC has several committees to support its governance and overall activities.

All committee terms are for two years, renewable once. Fellow terms are for one year, non-renewable.

Note:

  1. Not all committees fall within the purview of the nomination process, e.g., president-elect, or currently have vacant positions.
  2. You cannot nominate a colleague for a specific position. You can only provide their names via the nomination form. The GOC staff will notify them of their nomination and ask them to apply to a position of interest.

Nominations Process

To be transparent and to provide opportunities to all equally, GOC holds a nominations process to fill vacant positions on its committees.

The nomination process is organized by the Membership and Nominations Committee, which welcomes expressions of interest, including self-nomination. Members can apply today using the nomination form. The committee will review all received nominations. They will make their recommendations to the Board of Directors for first approval. Once approved at the Board-level, the nominees will be voted into their new position by the full membership during the Annual Business Meeting.
